Meet the first lady Of Black & Unique Dolls
My name is Ellen Brudet. I am a mother of 2 sons and a grandmother of a grandson. Living with my partner Marlon. I was born from a mixed marriage. My father was born in Suriname and my mother was born in the Netherlands. I am a very proud 'Moksi baby' or as I call it 'a double blood' (in the Netherlands they call mixed babies 'half blood' but that makes no sense to me!) Blessed with two cultures
Back in the day, when I was a child, it was a real 'mission impossible' for my mother to buy a colored doll to play with. Maybe they were there, but unfortunately my mother couldn't find anything when I was still small.
When my mother finally found the dark doll, I was no longer interested. Why? I think I got used to playing with white dolls. This made my mother very sad, all she ever wanted for me was a doll that I could identify with. Her exact words were: 'every child should be able to recognize themselves in the toys' And those words of hers have brought me where I am today!
In 2011 I went to the market in Amsterdam North (Buikslotermeerplein) with all my colored products. It was a wonderful time but also very difficult. 4 days a week in the storm, rain, cold, heat. I really wanted my own store and after a long struggle, it finally happened
On February 14, 2016 the Colorful Goodies store.
"It was and still is the first Black Doll Giftshop in Europe and I am of course more than proud of it!"
Recently my eldest son said to me:
'Mama... Colorful Goodies will be your legacy'.
And I believe this is true! I made history with my store. The future looks even brighter because we are doing everything we can to normalize the products in society.
Feel free to visit my small store with great ideals to experience the WOW effect for yourself 🤩
