We gave her the name 𝗝𝗲𝗮𝗻𝗻𝗲-𝗦𝗼𝗽𝗵𝗶𝗲

Her nickname is Sophie

We honor her name to S ophie Redmond

She was the first black female doctor in Suriname. In 1925 she started her training at the Medical School and graduated in 1935.

She was the first black woman to graduate from this school and become a doctor.

Sophie Redmond really wanted to become a doctor, although her father advised her against it and the management of the Medical School did not initially want to register her and this had to do with her skin color.... . Sophie Redmond had a very dark hair and during those times she encountered a lot of resistance... In 1935 she passed her exams as the first black woman and established herself as an independent doctor . She was called 'datra fu pôtisma' (doctor of the poor) because she often gave free consultations to people who had to survive on little... This made her special and popular. She did question talks on the radio... Datra mi Wan aksi Wan sanni (Doctor I want to ask you something) She did a lot of charity and she always wore a KOTO MISI (Traditional costume)
